GENERAL

Calibration aims to define the metrological characteristics of a measuring instrument.

Calibration allows you to:

  • periodically check the accuracy and precision of the instrument and determine its uncertainty;
  • maintain the state of confidence in the measurement process;
  • comply with the requirements of the technical standards.

The calibration is a “snapshot” of the instrument’s characteristics at the time of the calibration itself. However, it offers no guarantees once the instrument has left the calibration center. For this reason, we recommend at least an annual calibration (as recommended by international standards).

CALENDAR & SESSIONS

It is the list of all the calibration sessions by RADONSTAR. The calendar will be updated whenever new calibration sessions are available.

It is the time window in which the calibration for specific types of instruments is programmed. The session begins with the deadline for requesting the calibration service and ends with returning the calibrated instruments to customers.

The different phases of the calibration process are:

  • identification of the calibration session present in the calendar for the type of instruments to be calibrated;
  • reservation of the calibration session, acceptance of the conditions of the radon calibration  service;
  • sending the instruments to the RadonStar calibration laboratory by the date indicated in that session;
  • withdrawal of the instruments at the end of the session (estimated date is indicated in each session);
  • recieving of the calibration certificate by email within two working days from the end of the calibration session.

SHIPMENT AND RETRIEVAL

The instruments can be delivered by hand directly to the RADONSTAR calibration laboratory or by any preferred courier. In this second case, it is recommended to make an insured shipment.

The instruments must be delivered in suitable cases or packaging. The same packaging will be used to return the instruments.

In this case, the calibration cannot be performed in the scheduled session. The customer can withdraw the instrument and be reimbursed for the service costs with a €50.00 + VAT deduction for the administrative expenses incurred (per instrument). Alternatively, the customer can request a voucher (valid for 12 months) equal to the service costs with a €30.00 + VAT deduction for the administrative costs incurred (per instrument).

The customer can choose one of the options below:

  • collect the calibrated instruments directly from the RADONSTAR calibration center;
  • send a courier to collect the calibrated instruments (in this case, it is recommended to request an insured collection);
  • add the instrument shipping service by insured courier during the calibration booking phase (paid service).

At the end of the calibration session, the customer receives an email notification that the instrument is ready for collection. It is recommended to arrange the collection within 10 days of receiving the notification. After 10 days, the instruments will be stored appropriately at the calibration center. However, there will be no insurance or warranty coverage. If the instrument is not collected within 30 days from receiving the notification, a payment of € 50.00 + VAT  (per instrument) is required to cover administrative and management costs.

CALIBRATION

At the moment, we offer pre-program calibration sessions for two categories of instruments. More instruments will be added to this list in the near future.

By filling out the form here, you can contact the RADONSTAR laboratory for special radon calibration requests.

The first step is the verification of the instrument’s background inside a special chamber with a controlled nitrogen atmosphere. Instruments are then positioned in the calibration chamber into which the right amount of radon activity is injected so that the atmosphere reaches a concentration equal to the level for the first calibration point. When the equilibrium is reached (about 2 hours), the calibration will be carried out on a sampling time of 12 hours. After this period, the right amount of radon activity is injected into the calibration chamber so that the atmosphere reaches a concentration equal to the level for the second calibration point. When the equilibrium is reached (about 2 hours), the calibration will be carried out on a sampling time of 12 hours. After this period, the right amount of radon activity is injected into the calibration chamber so that the atmosphere reaches a concentration equal to the level for the third calibration point. When the equilibrium is reached (about 2 hours), the calibration will be carried out on a sampling time of 12 hours.

CERTIFICATE

The calibration certificate will be sent by email to the address indicated when the calibration session is booked or to another email address(es) by request.

The following information will be present in the calibration certificate:

  • Customer information
  • Calibrated instrument (model and serial number);
  • Calibration method
  • Traceability
  • Environmental condition
  • Period of exposure (calibration)
  • Calibration results
  • Calibration coefficients
  • Uncertainty of measurement
